"Today's complex world requires creative and objective strategies. That's where we come in."
In my first career, I worked for a major internet/tech company for 15 years – then decided to take some time off to be home with our two young boys. When they were grown, I realized how much I missed working and decided to venture out into the workforce again. I faced the typical challenges, and the usual insecurities. I worried that the big gap in my work experience would make finding a challenging and rewarding position difficult. On top of that, I wanted to maintain a lot of flexibility, because I had become involved in several volunteer positions during my non-working years. I’ve always worked in service-oriented positions and enjoy working with and helping others, so I began narrowing my search to careers that helped others.
Investment and financial planning topics are not typically taught in most education settings, instead we are left to learn as we go. I had been studying these topics for years on my own and thought it would be great to bring that knowledge and interest into my career, which I hoped would be both invigorating and mentally challenging.
I began working with Tom and quickly got to experience the mentally challenging part – I became a student again, learning both the financial services industry and all the new technology used to solve complex problems (it had changed quite a bit over the few years I was off). This technology allows us quite a bit of flexibility and accessibility – both for ourselves and for our clients. The technology allows us to handle tasks quickly, analyze complex problems, and provide tremendous amounts of access and transparency. And the rewarding part? That’s working with and helping our clients. We spend a lot of time educating them on the key concepts and techniques that nobody had ever bothered to explain to them, and how the technique might help them. It is great to watch our clients move through the planning process and work toward their goals.
That’s why I love what I do – I get to help people plan for their financial future and sometimes even that of future generations. I get to help solve problems and give our clients confidence that they have a plan, and another, just in case things change.
